FAQ
Is this a UK only site?
This site is being developed with the UK in mind but it is open to use by anyone anywhere in the world who has an electricity meter installed in their home.
What is the difference between this and other carbon calculators?
Trying to be Green is NOT a calculator; it is an electricity tracker. A calculator is a useful tool for estimating your footprint (check out actonco2.direct.gov.uk) but it is based on questions and assumptions. If you want your real usage and you want to see if you can reduce your usage over time then you need Trying to be Green.
What about electricity monitors like CurrentCost, electrisave, efergy and Wattson?
An electricity monitor clips onto your meter and gives you a portable reader showing your electricity consumption at any one time (the expensive ones can store the data too). If you have one of these then you will save yourself that trip to the cupboard under the stairs. It can be used as a great partner to Trying to be Green. However as they are pricey (£40++) we feel that they are no way essential... well maybe if you’re really really scared of spiders.
